CAHR'S 2026 SCHOLARSHIPS

We continue to invite applications from students in Western & Northern Canada and Québec & Atlantic Canada. Applications may be made by any student who is registered in a Canadian graduate school (Master’s, PharmD or PhD program) in these geographic regions pursuing studies and/or research in an area related to healthcare reimbursement.  

CAHR is proud to bequeath in their honour the following:

Steve Long Memorial Scholarship: $10,000.00
Western & Northern Canada

Steve, who passed away from cancer in 2019 was a friend, mentor and collaborator to many within the pharmaceutical market access community in Canada. Steve worked closely with the CAHR board and was instrumental in advancing the vision of our work across the country. Professionally, he embodied the characteristics that CAHR promotes. During his stellar career, he was a decorated pharmacist graduating from the University of Alberta, a respected former provincial drug plan official, and a sought-after consultant supporting a range of life sciences-related clients.

Fergal Mills Memorial Scholarship: $10,000.00
Ontario

Ferg passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in September 2022. He was a long-standing and integral member of CAHR’s board for many years and he helped to shape many significant aspects of our work. Ferg’s academic achievements include graduating with an MSc in Economic Evaluation & Health Technology Assessment from the University of York, United Kingdom. In addition to his impact as an active consultant in healthcare reimbursement, Ferg was passionate about CAHR and the market access industry, working tirelessly to develop programming for CAHR’s events, such as Montréal Day, Market Access 101 and 201, and National Day.

James LeBrocq Memorial Scholarship: $10,000.00
Québec & Atlantic Canada

James, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in April 2022, was a valued member of CAHR’s board for many years and recruited many members to our association. By his work with the membership committee, his contributions to Market Access 101 over the years and his leadership in establishing the CMAP (Canadian Market Access Professional) certification program, James made huge contributions to the market access industry. Despite James’ many accomplishments at McKesson, possibly his greatest contributions came outside of McKesson where he tirelessly worked to support the youth in his community and help them get back on their feet. James earned degrees from both McGill University and the University of Toronto.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE:
Three (3) Scholarships per year of $10,000.00*, payable directly to the recipient.

• The funding is to be used to defray costs associated with the student’s schooling, including direct costs (e.g. tuition, research assistance, supplies, etc.), as well as living expenses.
• The successful applicant may be invited to attend a CAHR event to receive public recognition.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE
The completed application must be received by the CAHR office by February 9th, 2026. No extension will be allowed.

PURPOSE
Scholarships were established by the CAHR Board of Directors in 2016 to encourage the development of expertise in areas of study relevant to healthcare reimbursement in the areas including but not limited to market access, health technology assessment, health economics, frameworks for decision-making, and health policy. Since its creation, 17 graduate students have received a CAHR award and have benefited from the CAHR network (Canadian Association for Healthcare Reimbursement - Past Scholarship recipients). 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Students must be registered in a Canadian graduate school (Master’s or PhD program) pursuing studies and/or research in an area related to healthcare reimbursement.
• Applicants do not need to be a CAHR member.

GUIDELINES
CAHR will evaluate applications according to:

1. Academic qualifications.
2. Relevance to healthcare reimbursement field.
3. Professional/volunteer experiences.

• The recipients will acknowledge their CAHR Scholarship in publications and presentations supported by this award.
• The successful candidates will report their advancement in the field of healthcare reimbursement to the CAHR board and may be invited to also do so in other forums .

THE APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:

• Your curriculum vitae.
• A letter of reference from your current academic supervisor that can speak to your academic and research abilities and potential impact in the field of healthcare reimbursement.
• A submission of an essay of no more than 1,000 words describing yourself and your field of study and how it is applicable to the advancement of healthcare reimbursement and market access.

All documents should be uploaded by the applicant via the Scholarship application page on the CAHR website no later than February 9th, 2026. Confirmation of receipt can be verified by contacting the CAHR office.
